American Institutes for Research

American Institutes for Research (AIR) is one of the world's largest behavioral and social science research and evaluation organizations. Our overriding goal is to use the best science available to bring the most effective ideas and approaches to enhancing everyday life. Founded in 1946 as a not-for-profit organization, we conduct our work with strict independence, objectivity, and non-partisanship. We are more than 1,700 people working to improve lives in communities at home and around the world. Our mission calls for us to turn the best research into practice, which we do in every arena in which we work.

AIR has 60 years of experience in aptitude and proficiency testing, including 40 years in K-12 educational assessments. For more than a decade, AIR's team has proven our ability to support states in the development of innovative and customized standard-based assessments, groundbreaking psychometric advances, and the transition to online testing. Our robust, online Test Delivery System (TDS) has proven effective, requiring minimal equipment, bandwidth, expertise, or support. It provides a simple, accessible interface free of distraction for students, and offers the industry's richest repertoire of item types. AIR's adaptive algorithm has a well-proven track record of delivering tests that ensure that each student has an opportunity to show what he or she knows and can do across the breadth of the curriculum.

The Buros Center for Testing

The Buros Center for Testing shares its expertise in assessment-related endeavors by providing critical appraisals of tests and descriptive information, offering psychometric consultation services, and developing deeper understanding of testing and assessment practices. We function as the world's premier test review center, as well as a provider of information about tests published in Spanish . In addition, the Center's various outreach efforts serve our mission to improve testing, assessment, and measurement practices through consultation and education, with special emphases in psychology and education.

The Center's psychometric consulting services provide independent psychometric research, evaluation, training, and consulting services to proprietary testing programs that include educational assessment programs as well as licensure, certification, admissions, and employment testing programs. In addition, through our audit and accreditation services, we evaluate the psychometric quality of proprietary testing programs.

The Buros Center's most recent initiative in assessment literacy provides innovative educational and professional development resources for test authors, publishers, and primarily test users about sound measurement practices and current issues in testing and measurement. This initiative's goal is to improve the selection and development of tests and assessments and to ensure that test development, selection, and use align with relevant standards and guidelines.
